Hello, I'm Peter Nicholson
a professional designer and Fellow of the Institute of Carpenters with over four decades of experience in design and craftsmanship.
My career began in 1980 as Head of Point of Sale for Harris & Sheldon, then the world’s largest shopfitting company, but for the past 25 years, I’ve focused on my true passion,
designing and crafting award-winning bespoke staircases.

How about this for a Statement piece of design? One of our amazing cantilevered staircases with two extra-large feature platforms and a 'twisted' starter post. All the treads are lit with hidden LED's routed into the bottom of each Oak tread.

A really magnificent Spiral Staircase, in Prime Grade Oak. The beautiful, curved outer string supports the black, steel spindles capped by a continuous, curved Oak handrail. Each tread is lit by inset LED's and there is a crackled glass rod riser between each tread to close the gap.

And here's one I designed for a famous England International Footballer. It's a traditional helical, or curved staircase, in Prime Grade Walnut with curved glass and continuous Walnut Handrails. Probably one of my all time favourites.

I designed this Oak & Glass staircase to fit into a newly built contemporary house, with amazing open country views from the rear. It features what we call a 'Clean Back', so the underside is just as beautiful as the top.

This was a lovely project to work on. A new stone built farmhouse in the middle of the beautiful Lincolnshire countryside. I designed this helical staircase as a showpiece for the reception area. It features decorative volute newels - often called 'monkey tails', with Walnut treads and contrasting white risers, a similar look to that often used in Georgian times.
I won the prestigious 'Wood Award' for this staircase design at 'Contour House' in Baslow - an incredibly 100m long, curved stone house, designed by leading architects, Sanei Hopkins. The Wood Award is the highest honour given in the UK carpentry trade, and the Master of the Worshipful Company of Carpenters, stated on the award that, "The workmanship displayed is quite exceptional". It's all Black & White with this T-shaped staircase. It's completely free-standing, thanks to the steel flitch plates hidden in the structure for support. There are two feature steps with Volute Newels and continuous curved handrails taking you up onto the first floor, which has a matching Gallery Landing.

... and here we are up on the first floor, with the matching Gallery Landing. The staircase then continues up to the second floor, again with a matching balustrade.
...and here's a close-up to show the detail of the beautiful Oak turned, Volute handrail, which we stained Midnight Black to retain the grain.
Turning your dreams into reality ...
From concept 3D drawings ...
...to first fix, where the steelwork for the cantilevered flight was installed, together with the curved steel strings and treads for the Helical staircase above. We then fitted temporary plywood panels for safety, and made doubles, which we used as templates for the glass ... ensuring a perfect fit, first time, every time.
... and here it is finished. Which goes to prove, if you can imagine it, we can design it, make it and install it for you - and the workmanship is all backed by Jarrod's 10 Year Guarantee.

This is a ‘Before’ photo of a customer’s staircase—what a mess! Did you ever see anything quite like it? ... Fortunately, they called in the experts and ...
…here's the finished transformation of the tired, old staircase above, morphed as if by magic, into a beautiful, contemporary staircase, with our fitted under-stair cupboards.

Here is a ‘Before’ photo of Mrs Galbraith’s staircase … with no balustrade at the bottom, it was an accident waiting to happen. Thankfully, she called in the experts ....
…and this is how it looked after I'd redesigned it. All the treads and risers have been clad in Oak, as have the strings. We fitted new Oak newel posts and 10mm toughened glass throughout.
I've been designing staircase for 25 years, and if I didn't know, I would have said it was a brand new staircase - that's how good it looks!
